Emcee: Dr. Faith Ottery, Brothertown Indian Nation Councilperson
Special guest: Janet Dangler – historian and recipient of the Thomas Dean Award
The 30-minute documentary is followed by open discussion among attendees moderated by Councilperson Ottery.
On the shore of Lake Winnebago, Joan Schadewald tells about the Brothertown Indians, their tribal recognition status, and their 30 years to restore it. An amalgamation of tribes forced from the East Coast to New York and ultimately to Wisconsin following the Revolutionary War, the Brothertown cling determinedly to their Indian heritage to this day.
